Quirky Cottage Tour

We bought our home two years ago. It was built in 1930 and remodeled many times over the years. We have added our name to the long list of remodelers. As I was guiding contractors, electricians and plumbers through the house to show them what we were wanting them to do I heard myself say, "This is a quirky little house" and Quirky Cottage seemed like the perfect name.

The house had two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The back wall of the house was shared with an attached one bedroom apartment. The only work we've done so far to the house is open an access to the apartment, incorporating it with the rest of the house, tear down the one car garage that was amazing everyone that it was still standing on its own and building a two and one half garage in its place.

Every room in QC needs redecorating or remodeling. Eight more weeks and I'll be retired from the working world and home during the day to start on all of the projects I have in my head.

I'd like to take you around now so that you can see what needs to be done.

Any ideas you'd like to give me on things to do in any of these room will be welcomed. Over the next few months I'll be stripping wallpaper, painting and rearranging. Pop in occassionally to see what happens.

I love your Quirky Cottage! The curved wall and the bathroom drawer and floor. There is so much great about your place. Is this what they mean by thinking outside the box?
Your little hole in the wall from the laundry room into the other side reminds me of one we have in our home. Ours in right at shin level and as you walk in the door it is right in front of you. It goes into the stairwell that leads to the basement. When we moved in it was covered with a piece of white shelf lining paper. This was a fan to help with the circulation of air from downstairs and upstairs, only it doesn't work. So we have painted over the plastic covered area in the same room color and no one notices it. I like your framing idea, but at shin level that might be a little too quirky. Also can't you see all the little children taking delight in dropping objects down the stairs through the hole?

I'm so glad you joined the house tour blog party because I really enjoyed seeing your Quirky Cottage! I love the name Quirky Cottage, and I love all of its quirks.

I can also see why that room sold you on the house. I'd probably spend all of my time in it if I lived there.

Very clever laundry solution, too!

Quirky Cottage is adorable! A curved wall? That is way cool! Fun post, I love peeking inside people's homes! (no surprise there, of course)

Happy night,
Melissa

Have fun decorating! I like that quirky curved wall. Anything out of the ordinary gives such character to a home I think!

Quirky! It looks big....loving the quirky curved wall, the under cabinet TP holder...and I used to have that Laura Ashley wallpaper in my son's nursery....brought back sweet memories!!

Thanks for the lovely, albeit quirky, tour!! Loved it!

Wow! All the little windows are fun - and the curvy wall. I wonder how they even built that?!
It all looks very cozy and inviting. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)

I wish you showed us the exterior, this place seems huge for a cottage! I love all the things you do, too, the br floor, the nooks & crannies, etc. That wallpaper border w/ the children on it, if you take it down carefully, you cold frame one of the runs to keep the image.

Cute cottage. Thank you for joining Julia's tour!

We have a cabinet, very much like your cabinet. Our's belonged to J's mother. It is part of a set of kitchen furniture his parents bought when they set up housekeeping in 1944.

I miss my laundry chute from my old house so I had to laugh at your hole in the wall chute ;) How clever is that!

That is one beautiful home you have there, I must concur that I love that bathroom floor, too...I think I would keep that wallpaper border...or at least put it at the bottom of the list of things to do, it's very sweet.

You have great light in your home, too, love that...that is something that is worth every penny to me! We bought our current home in the winter...and it seemed so bright...but in the summer, when the leaves come out, it's kind of dark...but at least it's summer, so you can go outside and enjoy the weather and sun from there...but still...I want my next house to be nice and bright and airy like yours :)

Have fun decorating, can't wait to see what you do :)

Come see my open house today if you get the chance, thanks!

Nice to meet you,
Bella :)

Great QC!
The bathroom floor is really neat, and that TP drawer, lol..

LOVE the curved walls and molding.

Those quirky pillars were proably added after they took out a wall.

The sunroom is awesome.

Had to laugh at your secret laundry passage, my dh and I wanted something very similar if we ever designed our own house.

I have a china cab much like your QC Master's GM. Very nice!

Best wishes on retirement and getting your cottage just the way you want it!

Just wanted to let you know that my kitchen floor is almost exactly like that "quirky" tile you have on your floor :) I tiled it in February this year and I love it. I've never seen anything like it until I saw your pictures. Thanks for showing us your house, it's very cute and has a lot of potential! Congrats on retiring and being able to start implementing your ideas at home...I would love to do that!

Hi Mrs. RGS and thanks for stopping by my house tour and for your kind comments. I am still catching up on all the tours and comments. I like your quirky cottage, especially the curved wall and the guest room. But the garden room is fantastic and would have been a selling point for me as well!

ps - Zoe the black cat sends her greetings! She said it is about time she got a little attention in blogland.

Quirky is a good name for your place and a fun Name!! We call our house the spindles because it has spindles everywhere. Hoever, I did not participate in this house show. I have shown some of it in the past. No time right now!
